A bit of an update. The kids are still sick and there are 2 days left till school starts. Thank goodness for online school.

Oldest is on the mend. She had laryngitis but it is getting better. It was amusing to hear her squeak for a couple of days. (Usually I am the one that gets it. I have lost my voice for a week at a time before and had to go to work and answer phones.) She also has a cough, but it’s starting to fade away. Now for Little L, that kid has kept us up for 2 nights now. We were up bright and early today. 5 a.m. to be exact. She couldn’t sleep because of her nose, so no one else could sleep either. I was going to take her to the doctors, but they are in the process of moving and did not have office hours today. So the oncall nurse called me back about an hour later. I explained to her that L was very congested and not eating and not sleeping. She told me a couple of things and to just wait its course. 7 to 10 days. The norm, which I already knew. I went out and got her some saline spray and after her nap, gave her a dose. She did pretty well with it, the nose sucker thingy as we call it sends her into an uncontrollable fit. With crying, screaming, and flying kicks, we haven’t had much luck using it on her this time. I mean, I don’t blame her. Who wants something stuck up their nose, that pulls ick out and makes a scary noise at it pulls said ick out?

She had a good afternoon. She actually had an appetite. The nurse said not to force food just make sure she was getting plenty of liquids. So after 2 days, it was nice to see her ask for food and eat it. About 7, she got really sleepy but was fighting it. Then fought me over taking her motrin, and more nose spray. She finally gave up and fell asleep at 9. It’s now 10:15 and she has woken up 2 times. Both, she has gotten herself back to sleep.

So that is how the last week of summer break has went. Still not complaining, but I wish it had been more fun for both kids. Tuesday it is back to the grindstone.  Oldest still says she is looking forward to school starting. We will see what happens about that after the first week. 😉

Today wasn’t half bad. We got a call from the eye doc yesterday that the new glasses were already in. Yeah! I wanted to go pick them up this morning, but it never happened. I had to run an errand with hubby instead. While we were gone, Oldest let Little L play in the tub. When they got out, L told her she had to pee. So Oldest put her new potty seat on the toilet and set her on it. She said it took her a few minutes and right when she said she was done, she started to go. Another Yeah! She knows when she has to pee, she usually holds her diaper and says UH OH or pee. But we never seem to get to the potty fast enough. I know she will learn soon. I am not going to push it. But I didn’t push it with Oldest and she wore diapers till she was 4. I know, I know.

We were then going to go get her glasses during nap time for L. But it was getting so late, I really didn’t want to trek out into the heat and then fight the beginning of rush hour traffic to get back to the house. We decided to go after dinner, since the eye clinic was open til 7, and L could go and it would be a little bit, (not much though), cooler.

Oldest also got her new school books today. Two big boxes full of wonderful things to read and learn. She said that she was actually looking forward to going back to school. This summer hasn’t been the most interesting, so she is ready to have something to do to consume her time. I told her she felt like this now, just wait. Come August 4, she will be complaining and crying. I know my girl!

Doesn't she look happy, putting all her books in her new book shelf.

I made an early dinner and we headed out around 6. We picked up the glasses, which look really good on Oldest. She said “Wow” when she first put them on. And I think she actually likes the style too, even though she acted like a total brat when we picked them out. I wanted to say, “Told ya so!” But I didn’t. Mom actually kept her mouth shut this time. Another Yeah!

We then stopped by the park on the way back. We hadn’t been to the park for months. Since it got so hot so fast, I just haven’t felt like taking the kids then fighting with them to come home. The last time we went, L was running around like a crazed maniac, and it was pretty crowded. But she did really well this evening. She was actually listening to us and not just taking off. She was going down the big kid slides by herself. Climbing and running like the bigger toddlers that were there. She loved every minute of it. Then at the end, Oldest decided she was going to roll down the small hill that they have. She used to do this all the time at the park in Washington that we went to almost everyday. Atleast everyday that it wasn’t raining, it was a nice park though. She rolled down it and then when L got off of the swing and saw what she was doing, she joined in. She rolled down twice, got super dizzy, and that was way funny to watch. I got some really cute pics of them and several videos. It was finally a nice, stress free evening. 🙂

We finally got the computer set up today that Oldest is supposed to be using to do her online school with. We have had it for 2 years, but it had to take a land line. No wireless…so aggravating. So it has set on her desk in her room for 2 years now waiting and waiting for me to get off my lazy arse and call the cable company to have them install a jack.

When we first moved in, hubby wanted a jack put in the dining room area, but the guy that came to hook us up said he didn’t have the time and to call the office. We put it off and just dealt with it. I called last year to have one installed, but the guy was trying to tell me that I needed a new router. I told him that we had one, we purchased when we lived in Nevada. He said I had to have a new one and it would be $70 extra every month. Hold the phone. I told him I would have to talk it over with my husband and hung the hell right up. He got me so confused I wouldn’t call back.

I know Oldest didn’t mind doing her school work in her room, but I also know she didn’t just do school work. She listened to music and watched videos. I would go to check on her and she would jump out of her skin sometimes. Silly kid. Now she will be out in the open working where everyone can see her. Everyone including Little L. That is going to be the problem. L loves the keyboard. We had to fight with her today just trying to get the darn thing hooked up, so I know it will be a fight for a good while to keep her off of sissy while she is trying to do work. I can hear and see it now! HELP

I told Oldest she could go to her room when she had to read or do book work, it isn’t all online, but math courses are mainly. So if I schedule math to be done when L takes her nap…UGH I will never get a break. 😦  I have to say that this is all daddy’s idea. NOT mine at all. I love having a computer in the dining room, though.  I am sitting at it right now, typing away. Much easier then writing on my tablet all the time. And faster too. 🙂

Today is the first day of state testing for Oldest. I am sitting in our van outside the University of Phoenix. Parents can’t stay inside, it has to be off site or in their cars. It’s pretty warm today. I hope she gets done fairly quickly. Momma is going to be a hot mess when 2:30 rolls around.

I am pretty much alone, all the other parents have left. There is a Circle K across the street may have to venture over there for something to snack on.

Sitting here reminds me of Oldest having to do her test 2 years ago. We had just moved to Arizona from Nevada. Her teacher said that we could stay with Nevada as long as we made it to one of the testing sites. We chose the closest one to the border which was in Laughlin.  We made plans to make it a mini vacation, since I was 7 months pregnant, we knew it would be the last trip for awhile. We borded the dog, rented a car, and booked a room. It was a lot of fun. First night we stayed at a casino but we really didn’t like it, the next 2 nights we found this lovely inn that had a view of the Colorado River, over in Bull Head City. Her test was at the Laughlin Library. We sat out in the car and waited on her. I was addicted to Candy Crush at that time, so it kept me busy. She was always the first one done, which worried me, but afterwards we went and saw the sites. Found a park and played in the river. Brought home a ton of rocks that for some reason were so neat that we had to have them. Just had a wonderful time.

Well I have been out here for about an hour now, there is a slight breeze blowing, making it bearable to sit. Rather quiet too. Finally some alone time. No toddler fussing at me for food or a new cartoon, no having to help Oldest with her work.  Although I worry and hope she is doing well. I think I am going to enjoy this next hour. 😉

The end of the school year is fast approaching for Oldest. Next week, since she does online public school,  I have to take her to do her state testing 3 days in a row. I am not looking forward to it and neither is she. Luckily they have chosen a place that is definitely closer then it was last year. They go by your address, but our address was a good 30 plus minutes away from testing site. After getting her signed in, I sat in the car and waited and waited and waited. There was no way I could drive home. I didn’t feel comfortable enough leaving her where she was so far away.

During the 3 days, she has Writing, Language Arts and Math. Now she does pretty well in the first two, but Math…that is a whole other story. I am not saying she is not good in math, I am saying that it takes awhile for her to catch on then she will forget what she learned as soon as the final test is over.

So if this test is going to be about what she learned over the past school year, this kid doesn’t stand a chance. She inherited two things from me definitely, my clumsiness and my lack of math skills. Although at times, she does surprise. I told her all she could do was do her best. That is all I ask. That is all any parent could ask.

Looking around on the internet one night I came across some pretty funny math memes. I thought of both of us while I scrolled through them and laughed out loud more then once. This is for all that struggle just a little bit in the arithmetic department. We are not going to let you push us around anymore Math! We are tired of trying to find your “X”. Just accept the fact that she is gone. Move on, dude!!!  🙂
