Yesterday, I had to go to a doctor’s appointment for myself. I hadn’t been to a doctor since Little L was born and I am definitely not good at going unless something is wrong. I have been having chest pains off and on for the past 2 weeks. Since my dad had died of a heart attack, I thought I would go and get checked out.

They hooked me up to the EKG monitor and the results came back looking ok and my blood pressure was good. She wanted me to go and get blood work this morning after 12 hours of fasting. And they are going to find me a cardiologist to go to. She said that she didn’t want to dismiss it as being indigestion or stress, because of family history. Although she did prescribe me some indigestion medication to take and see if that helped with the pain. The doctor was very nice and she actually set and talked with me, she didn’t rush and she waited for me to ask questions. I really liked her. I never have good experiences with doctor’s, probably one reason why I don’t go. Even though I could stand to lose a few pounds (or more), she said that maybe they could help me do that rather then telling me I had to do this and had to do that. I lost 15 pounds last summer and I have kept it off and when I told her that, she was quite pleased.

I went and did the blood work this morning. I didn’t get there till after 10 and they didn’t get me in till around 11. Needless to say, I was a tad bit hungry by the time I got home. Oldest went with me. She had to sit outside the building in the rocks because it was so busy. I got home and was glad that it was all over and now it is just wait for the cardiologist appointment.

Hope everyone has a great weekend! Thanks for reading! 🙂

I took Oldest to get her blood work done on the 26th of June. I was expecting a call from the endocrinologist around the following Monday or Tuesday. Nothing. With all the family stuff at the end of the week,  I didn’t get to call them until this past Monday. At first I had to leave a message for them to call me back. About 2 hours later the receptionist called and said the doctor didn’t want to give me the results over the phone and wanted me to bring Oldest in. “Ok when”?  I asked, thinking the next day. “Well, she said to “squeeze” you in on the 21st.” “The 21st, that is 2 weeks away. And you can’t tell me whether the tests were good or bad?” I asked. She said no the doctor didn’t give her the information.  So I accepted the appointment and hung up. Another hour went by and the nurse called. She had the results and told me that her levels were still elevated, and her Vitamin D level was still low. I actually couldn’t believe it. She has been cutting out the extra sugar and has been drinking more milk. Even started taking vitamins again. The nurse, who was very nice, said to eat healthy and exercise. That is one thing Oldest does not do is exercise. Also, they sent a prescription of more vitamin d pills to my pharmacy which is silly cause my insurance doesn’t cover the cost. Plus, last ones she took hurt her stomach every day she took them. I told the nurse this and she seemed surprised that they bothered her. I asked if I could just buy some over the counter and she said yes, but get atleast 2000 iu. Then she said after she is on them for atleast 6 weeks she will have to get her blood work done again but the doctor will tell me about that when we come in for the appointment.  So today I receive in the mail the lab request sheet for them to check her viatamin d. She hasn’t been on the pills a week yet and already sending me this. They are really confusing and I wish that we could change doctors. All they talked about in the first appointment was for her to lose weight.

On a brighter note, she went in for her Scoliosis check up and it was good. No signs of change and her curvature is at 20%. The doctor said come back in in October and if it hasn’t changed he will move her appointments to every 6 months. 🙂

Today was Little L’s 2 year checkup. I almost didn’t take her in because the nurse practitioner that she usually sees is on vacation this week. They told me it would be her actual doctor this time. Which I don’t really care for. She has only seen both girls one time in the 2 years they have been going there. I didn’t like her the first time, and I still don’t. She is kind of abrasive to me. But there was nothing else going on, so I kept the appointment. Might as well get it over with, right?

L did great. When the nurse weighed her and took her height, she stood very still. She let her take her temperature and get her head measured. Then here it came, “She has gained some weight since last time.” “Yes, I know. She likes to eat.”  “How much milk does she drink?”  Fibbing just a tad,  “I try to keep her around 3 cups.” “Sometimes she does get more.” She left and we only had to wait a few minutes when the doctor came in. The first thing she said to me, “Why is that in her mouth?” Talking about her pacifier. “Because she wanted it and I gave it to her.” “You need to just throw it away.” When people do this I listen, make my own comments in my head, but I just nod and say ok. I know she needs to get rid of that thing, but please don’t talk to me like I haven’t a clue. She then examined L, everything was good. She laid perfectly still while she mauled her over, but did swat at her tongue depresser bacause she kept sticking it in her mouth. She didn’t say much about her weight but then commented that she needs to eat fruits and veggies as snacks. Making me think that she thinks all I give her is junk food. She lives on grapes, strawberries, and watermelon. Then on the print out, it said for her to get atleast 30 minutes to an hour of exercise a day. Have you seen my kid?  She is non stop from morning till night. She also said she was at the limit of milk consumption,  and to switch her to 2%. I had already did this and I told her. When she was done all she said was ok then and walked out the door.  I was the polite one and said thank you.

The good thing is that she didn’t have to get any shots. Plus she got in the car with no problem, and even got in her seat and let sissy buckle her up. When we got home, she ate lunch and munched a little, watched some Blaze and went down for her nap right on time. 🙂

Oldest has a follow up appointment with the Endocrinologist next Tuesday. Well she did. They called me this past Tuesday saying that I had not went in to have her do the 2 hour glucose test. I had put it off so long that I was going to just cancel the appointment anyways. They asked me if I could take her in this week. I told them the earliest would be Friday and would that be enough time for them to get the results. It was. So we made plans to get up early today and get out of here since she had to fast from midnight on. She is fine with no food, but she couldn’t even have a drink of water. Little L is usually my alarm clock. Always around 7 to 7:30, except for the days I absolutely need her to wake me up. I woke up at 8:06. Not even thinking about having to get up I did anyways since my bladder was calling. I was in the bathroom when I remembered we had to go. I got Oldest up and she went in to get ready. Then L decides she is going to throw an ever loving fit over a popsicle. I was trying to make her a waffle and she was screaming like a banshee because I would not hand her what she wanted. I finally got her to calm down, I turned on Paw Patrol and set down and started to watch. She forgot about the frozen goodie and started eating the waffle.

We didn’t actually leave until 9:15. I had a quick errand to run before we could go to the lab. But it wasn’t so quick and it was going on 10 when we found the lab. Luckily it was only a few miles away and I got a great parking space right in the shade, which is a necessity here. We go inside and the receptionist is very nice and she takes our paper work. There were only a few people in the waiting area, so we should be seen pretty quickly.  One of the lab techs was talking with the receptionist and she seen my insurance and said that they didn’t accept the one I had. WTH? The receptionist apologized and the other lady pulled out a map and showed me where the next lab was that accepted it. Just right down the street. Cool. We get back in the car and head down the road. I thought the lady said it was on the left, so I turned. Oldest said no it was on the right. I got up in the parking lot for one of the hospitals and there was no where to go to pull over to look at the map again. I finally got turned around, and head out of the lot. I had to turn right because there was so much traffic, I could not go straight across. I decide to drive back down and get gas since my light came on while doing all this. When we finally get to the right place after another turn that was incorrect, you had to take a token to have the gate open. Oh great, how much is this gonna cost me? We find a place to park all the way at the end of the lot and walk the mile back up to the office. When we open the door, it is packed. Great, just great. The receptionist was not as nice as the other lady and I tell her why we are here and she says that they close for lunch and they couldn’t see her. But we could drive another so many miles and go to one that is opened at lunch time. Nope not gonna do it. Oldest was already saying her tummy was hurting and having no water in 100 degree weather just isn’t right. So we left the office and in the main area was the station to get your paid parking token. I didn’t know what to do, so I pushed the Help button. I told the man who answered that I was only there for a few minutes and did I still have to pay he said not if you are under 20 minutes. I said thanks, and we ran out of the building, made the trek to the car as fast as our feet could carry us. I was heading to the exit when this other car decided that he was just gonna set and block the traffic that was trying to leave. “MOVE DUDE!” We got up to the gate and I popped in the token and the arm raised and off I went. Oldest had packed a sandwich to eat on the way home. She had it on her lap and asked if she could have it now. “Yes baby, eat.” We got home and I called the doctors office that sent us to the wrong place. After telling them what happened, I cancelled the appointment and they have to send me new lab paperwork and after I get it done, I just have to call them to reschedule.

Now I have a huge headache and Little L won’t take a nap. For a Friday, this day sure has not gone the way I would have liked. Here’s to hoping the weekend is much better. 🙂
