I can remember every Halloween costume Oldest has worn over the years. At 2 she had a Cinderella dress. She didn’t go out Trick or Treating back then, I really didn’t see the point. The next year, she was a cute little witch all in black and bright green trim. She had more fun giving out candy this year. Then at 4 she was a ballerina, and the first time she got to actually go to houses. When she was 5, she had no clue what to go as and we had just moved to Washington and didn’t have alot of money at that time. We went into a Salvation Army with a friend and she spied a black/leopard print dress in her size. She wanted it so bad, and I remember that it was like $2. We also loved going to the dollar store and they had these masks that came with all the pieces you just had to glue it together, in the Halloween section. We found a cat mask and she went as a kitty that year.

At age 6, she went as a Pirate, minus the eye patch. The next year, her cousin invited her to go with them and he was going to be a ninja. When we went looking for her a costume, she found a female ninja outfit. We called them to make sure that it was ok with them that she also went as a ninja. Her cousin could be a bit on the selfish side, but they said it was cool with them.

Just chillin!

When she turned 8, she went as a dark princess, angel thing. I am not really sure what it was, but she liked it. At 9 she went as a Monster High character, Lagoona Blue. 10, she was a witch again, and last year at age 11, a Zombie.

For Halloween this year, Oldest has decided to be a Robber. I don’t know how or even why she came up with this, but ok, I will go with it. We found all the parts and pieces except for the right mask. I bought her one but after she got home, she said it didn’t fit right since she has to wear glasses to see any thing! I told her not to worry about a mask or maybe she could take some of her make up from last year and make her a mask. She didn’t like my ideas, of course. When we went up to Walmart last week, we walked through the Halloween section to see what I could get to go with Little L’s costume. She found a fox mask and fell in love with it. I did find the tail, but I figured she would just spend the evening pulling it off. While I was looking, Oldest found a mask that totally spooked the hell out of me. It reminded me so much of the movie “The Strangers“.  That movie is very creepy and scary in my book, I think because it seemed so real. It could happen, and I hate movies like that. She decided that she had to have that mask. I asked her if she was changing her costume this late in the game and she said no, she would just wear that for the mask. We got home and she put it on, Little L did not like the mask at all. I repeat, DID NOT LIKE THE MASK! She cried until Oldest put it in her room. She has tried to wear it a couple of times, but L just won’t have anything to do with it. I told her when we go out, she will just have to either wear the original mask we got or no mask. Then once we bring L back home, she can wear the creepy mask for the rest of the time.

CREEPY!!!

I have pictures of every one of the costumes, since I am a picture fanatic and scrapbooker, but not on this computer. But I have to say. I still have each and every one of her costumes, packed away. Maybe Little L will like to wear one one day! 🙂

October is ticking right along, and I have several Halloween posts that I am wanting to do. Let’s have some fun on this fine (rainy) Tuesday and play a game…

 Would You RatherHalloween Style.

  1. Would you rather walk through a graveyard after midnight or spend the night in a spooky abandoned house?
  2. Would you rather dunk for apples or carve a pumpkin?
  3.  Would you rather be able to eat as much Halloween candy as you in one night then have the rest taken away or be able to eat one piece a day and never have any taken away?
  4.  Would you rather meet a Vampire or a Werewolf?
  5. Would you rather BE a Vampire or BE a Werewolf?
  6.  Would you rather read a scary story or see a scary movie?
  7. Would you rather have a costume that is totally amazing but quite uncomfortable or have a costume that is not that great, but really comfy to wear?
  8. Would you rather make your costume yourself or buy one at the store?
  9. Would you rather get 20 of your favorite treats when you go trick or treating or get 50 that is not your favorite?
  10. Would you rather go to a really great Halloween party where you didn’t know anyone or go to a lame Halloween party and know everyone there?
  11. Would you rather go trick or treating with a group or get paid for taking little kids out trick or treating?
  12. Would you rather win a contest for best Halloween costume or win for having the best carved pumpkin?
  13. Would you rather sleep in a coffin or live in a giant pumpkin?
  14. Would you rather have to eat 6 fish eyeballs or have to eat a small frog?
  15. Would you rather wear your Halloween costume to school or work everyday til Thanksgiving or wear a jack-o-lantern over your head for the first 3 days of November?
  16. Would you rather help design and build a haunted house or go to a haunted house that someone else created?
  17. Would you rather be chased by 5 Zombies or be chased by 1 Werewolf?
  18. Would you rather go trick or treating in your neighborhood or go trick or treating at the mall?
  19. Would you rather eat all your Halloween candy or trade it all for $10.00?
  20. Would you rather dress up as the Devil or dress up as an Angel?

Here are my answers:

  1. This is a toss up. I have never done either so I am going to go with stay in an abandoned house.
  2. Carve a pumpkin
  3. Let’s pig out and eat as much as I could in one night.
  4. If they are anything like Angel or Spike from Buffy the Vampire slayer then I would go with Meet a Vampire!
  5. Be a Vampire. Werewolf’s are too hairy.
  6. Probably see a scary movie.
  7. I haven’t dressed up in years so I would have to go with not amazing, but comfy.
  8. If I was handy dandy at sewing I would make costumes but since I am not, I will buy one at the store.
  9. I will go with 20 of my faves because who wants 50 pieces of candy that you don’t like.
  10. I would love to go to any party but I would have to go to one that I knew everyone.
  11. Go trick or treating with a group sounds more my speed.
  12. Having the best carved pumpkin would be pretty cool, especially since I had to buy my costume.
  13. Can I leave the lid up on this coffin? If not, I will go with the giant pumpkin.
  14. Yuck on both. Ewww…but if I had to choose, I will take the small frog. *Ribbit*
  15. I will go with the pumpkin on the ole head. It’s only 3 days.
  16. Both sounds fun, but I will go with design and build it.
  17. I would have to go with chased by 5 Zombies. Werewolf’s are very fast and I don’t think I could out run it.
  18. Trick or Treating door to door sounds more fun.
  19. Eat it allllll!!!!!
  20. My daughter says the Devil cause it’s cooler.

I hope that you will join in on my fun and answer these spooky questions. I was going to pick people to participate, but it will be easier this way.

I can’t wait to read your posts!  🙂

It was bound to happen, sure took it long enough too. Here in the desert, Fall finally arrived over the weekend. We had very warm weather for Halloween, which was nice. We didn’t have to walk around with jackets on or umbrellas! Saturday hit and the temps dropped down into the 80’s and today they were in the low 70’s. Last night, it got down to 50. We had to shut all the windows we had opened and turn off the ceiling fans. It was a really nice change of pace. The 90+ degree temps all October was starting to get to me. Oh don’t get me wrong, I still love hot weather, but enough was enough, ya know.

Our Halloween was pretty nice, once we got going. At the last minute, my daughters friend asked if we wanted to walk around with them. We went out with them last year, and we had a good time. They wanted to come up to our side of town, which was fine by me, but they were late getting here due to make up malfunction.  I had the bright idea to take Little L to a few houses. I had been planning this for weeks and she was all excited to get to go out, but once they showed up she started to cry. I think being outside in the dark got to her. Then we started to get into the truck and we lost her pacifier. She didn’t really need it, but we carry it with us just for a safety net. I looked all over for it and they all had their flashlights scanning the ground, but no one found it. We went on and I finally got her to calm down. At the last house we took her too, which was only 3, she started to mellow out and like what we were doing. When she got in the truck and looked in her bucket, the look on her face was priceless. Daddy took her home and I jumped in the car with them and we were on our way.

Where we went was right up the road, but there were alot of houses lit up and decorated. There was even a haunted house that one family put on in their garage. We went through it, but my daughters friend was a little scared so the ones running it told the people inside to keep it calm. It was still spooky the way they did it, instead of jumping out at you, they stood very still as you walked by. CREEPY. They had this one really tall guy dressed as a scary clown. He peaked out from behind a curtain and honked a horn at us. When we were done, we circled back around to the front of the house and the little girl that had gotten in front of me waved at what you thought was a statue with a mask on, standing at the corner of the house. He didn’t say anything but raised one finger up to his mouth as to say shhhh. I seen this and chills ran down my arms.

After about an hour and a half we were done. Oldest got a bunch of candy and it was mainly all the good stuff like reeses and milky ways. I ate more chocolate the next day then I had in the past 4 months. My mom even bought 2 bags, even though I told her we wouldn’t get any trick or treaters on our street.

When we got home that night, I found out that daddy had found the paci up under the front seat in the truck. Little L was fast asleep and didn’t make a peep when we got in. Daddy had let her play with the candy she got. She had fun squeezing it in her little hands, in the wrapper of course. She squeezed it until it melted and the candy was just a crumpled gooey mess. But it definitely kept her busy for the time we were gone.

Doesn’t she look scary!

Saturday night we got to go to our very first Boo Fest here in town. I wanted to go last year, but Little L was only 4 months old and we didn’t want to have her out after dark if we didn’t have to. So we just stayed at home. This year, I decided that we were going. I had been planning it for a couple of weeks. If my hubby didn’t want to take out Little L, then the oldest and I would just go by ourselves. Oldest decided that she wanted to be a zombie teenager and I gave in. I wanted cutesy matching outfits for the girls, but I got cheap at the last minute. All I had to buy her was some zombie makeup and my mom bought her some zombie tights. She wore the pink shorts that she no longer likes because she didn’t mind getting makeup on them for the zombie effect. We bought Little L a pair of halloween pajamas. Glow in the dark skeleton. I said I got cheap!

It was a busy day all around. I had to go up to Walmart to order a birthday cake and so that trip always takes atleast 2 hours or more when my mom and oldest goes. I would be in and out within minutes if I could just get out of this house one time by myself. It never happens, so I just roll with it, trying not to stress. Boo Fest started at 6 p.m. so I was going to make dinner early then leave around 5:30 to get a place to park. My mom decided that she would just pay for us something to eat there so I wouldn’t have to cook. Ok…I love not having to cook. I made sure Little L had something in her tummy tho before we left. Then we had to stop at an ATM for some cash for the food, oh and we were suddenly low on gas, so we had to stop and do that. I didn’t think we would ever get there and it was less then a mile up the road.

We finally got there and it was already packed.  It was fun to see all the little kids dressed up. People were carrying pumpkins to their cars like it was gold. We made the trek across the parking lot and got into the area. There were a tons of bouncy houses and carnival like games, and I few food stands. They also had a live band which was pretty cool. Oldest decided she wanted to go up into one of the bouncy houses and we tried to get Little L up in there, but no, she wasn’t having it. She was in one of her moods, I think that it was just too late in the evening for her to enjoy herself. Everytime the band started up another song, she cried. We did get her to go into the pumpkin patch. It was littered with all kinds of small pumpkins. She picked up two and I got a few pics of her. Couldn’t get her to smile at all. After we got her out, I told oldest to go pick her out some pumpkins, she came back with 3 pretty cool ones.

After that it just went down hill. Why did I ever think that this would work out? Oldest got super clingy like she had never seen people before. I tripped over her a couple of times because she was so close. Little L kept crying and making her little pouty face. She didn’t want to walk and we had her stroller but she wanted daddy to carry her. I wanted to go on the haunted train ride, but I couldn’t figure out where the entrance was so we just stood there, in the middle of the field. I looked at my hubby and said I’m ready when you are. We left shortly after, we tried to get oldest to go play but she just wouldn’t. She is not an outgoing kid like we would like her to be. She said it was too crowded and she just felt out of place because there were so many little kids there.

We got home and only had been gone little over an hour. I felt bad that the night was a bummer but we did score some pretty cute pumpkins and I got a few good shots of our little pumpkins too.

halloween

Made a trip up to the good ole Walmart today for my mom to pick up a few things, and my oldest wanted to stop in Party City to look at their Halloween costumes. She has decided to be a Zomberella. What the heck is a Zomberella, you ask? Well, it is a cross between Zombie and I guess, Cinderella. The dress is black with scull and cross bones on the top. Every year she always goes for the dark costumes. I really wanted her to go with something that had more color. We looked on the wall for something Little L might like. Of course at that age, everything is so cute. We picked out 3 that we liked, a bunny, a kitty and a cute candy corn outfit.  I really liked the bunny but I am afraid it will be too hot and Little L isn’t going to let me put and keep anything on her head. The kitty outfit was really pretty but my hubby said no…that left the candy corn, its a dress, but it is very bright and colorful. I want something easy, in and out! We seen a candy corn outfit for the teens and it was really cute too. I tried to talk oldest into it and thought I had her, but my dear sweet hubby chimed in and said “let her dress the way she wants.” Which was really funny cause he would never say that any other time.  Then we went on and played with the Halloween masks and accessories. Oldest got a tube of black lipstick. She has been wanting some for awhile. When she found it, she was a happy girl. Little L got a purple candy bucket. May not go with her outfit we finally decide on, but hey it was a dollar, so who could complain.

Last year, oldest dressed as a witch.  She found a costume that was pretty colorful and the bottom of it lit up. When it came time to go out, we couldn’t get the darn thing to work at all. Figures!  I thought. I really wanted to see it sparkle out in the dark. I remember going to this one house and I stood off to the side and I heard the couple giving out candy tell her that she was the prettiest witch that they had seen all night. It was getting late too, so that made her feel pretty special,  even tho it wasn’t lit and sparkly.

My hubby came across a Michael Myers mask in the store today and tried it on. We have talked about him dressing as him almost every Halloween. When I was pregnant with oldest, I had a dream that my sweet hubby was actually Michal Myers and he was chasing me, trying to *swallow* kill me.  I still remember that dream, even tho it has been 10 almost 11 years. Back when we lived in Vegas, we had a big front yard with a good size tree. We had tons of tick or treaters. I told him that he needed to dress like that and stand beside the tree as they approach. Just stand, nothing else, and see who was actually paying attention or just after candy. I really miss living there, we always got complements on our decorations too. Last year, we bought a ton of candy and didn’t have one person show up. We had so many back in Vegas, we had to turn out the light early cause we ran out. Oh well, we showed them. We ate all that candy by ourselves. 😉
