While standing in Walgreens the other day, Oldest decides she is going to pick on her dear, sweet mother. We were waiting on her grandma, she was looking at some vitamins, and Oldest out of the blue tells me I have wrinkles. “Really?” I say.ย  She proceeds to say, “Yep they are all around your eyes.” “Especially when you smile.” “So you don’t want me to smile?” “No, I’m just telling you.” she says. Now mind you at home, she is always telling me how pretty I am, how great my skin is. So this lighting in Walgreens must make me look hideous. So I tell her thanks for pointing it out and that she could stop at anytime. She then tells me that I have them around my mouth too. OMG girl can you shut up. Before she could say anything else, I said, “Well, you have pimples!” It came out really loud too and the look on her face after I finished that last word, it was like UH OH! How could you? was coming from her eyes.ย  She did stop after I said that. Meantime, another lady was standing on the other side of my mom listening to the whole conversation. I think my mom could have crawled under a rock and she actually said outloud that she didn’t know us. Thanks mom!

How many presents are enough for an 18 month old??

Back when oldest was the only child and she was 3 and a half, one of my sister in laws came into some money. She decided that she was going to buy my daughter a mountain of gifts for Christmas that year. You should have seen the tree, it was just really unbelievable. It got to a point that I told her to stop, because I couldn’t compete with all that she was buying. That poor kid was so overwhelmed come Christmas morning, that she didn’t really play with anything. Plus it made it really hard to buy for her over the next couple of years, because she had so much and she had just about everything you could imagine.

When I was growing up, it was me and my two brothers. I was the youngest, my oldest brother didn’t live with us. My mom bought my brother and I the same amount of presents and my oldest brother a few less. She always tried to make it “even” she said. I don’t know if she did this when I was really little, but there was 7 years between the one brother and myself. So I am sure he got a few more things then I did when I was still a toddler.

This year, I bought Little L 4 nice gifts. I got Oldest 9. My mom got Little L 5 gifts and Oldest 7. While I was wrapping some things today, she said that she thought she needed one more thing for Little L. I told her I didn’t think so what she got her was sure to be enough. “Well, I just feel like I didn’t get her enough.” she tells me.ย  She was trying to make things “even” between the two. I knew what she was doing. I had told her when we started shopping that it was only fair that Oldest gets more. She is 11, and no she doesn’t do toys, she does teenage things, like music, makeup, clothes. Also, I did not want to overwhelm little L by buying her a ton of toys. We went back and forth for a few minutes, I was trying to talk her out of buying one more present for L. I sure hope I succeeded. ๐Ÿ™‚

I couldn’t believe it. A Friday night and both kids were in bed at 9 p.m. Which is nice, because the first day of Christmas break and both were up early. Little L decided she was going to get up at 6:30 which is not like her at all. She has been sleeping in and her afternoon naps have been rather late in the day. Then getting her to bed at a good time before I end up pulling my hair out has also been rather trying. So to put it short, it has been a hell of a week!

Shopping on Monday with Oldest, then Tuesday I had to run errands with hubby. Wednesday I decided to go and get my drivers license. Bad mistake. They said I need a certified copy of our marriage certificate. I showed them the same one that I have showed two other states and they took it no problem. So whateves! After that, I decided to run over to Michael’s Craft store and take a look around. My mom and Oldest were with me, so she talked her grandma into buying us a pretzel at Target next door. She loves those pretzels! Once our tummy’s were full, we browsed around the store for a bit. Thursday, I had to go to the post office and my mom wanted to go to Kmart. So off we went about noon. We got almost to the post office and the damn check engine light popped on. Scared my mom…it doesn’t take much! I got to the post office and called hubby. He said to just come on back home and he would check it out. He fixed it, just a hose that he had disconnected when he replaced the battery Sunday. Took it that long to register with the car that it was unhooked. Since we were all the way back home, we just decided to finish our shopping up at Walmart. Of course it was very crowded, but we managed to get the items we were looking for. When I got home I swore that for the next 3 days, I wasn’t going to leave the house. Oldest then tells me that she felt like she was getting sick. Great. I gave her some medicine, had enough for 3 doses. So that meant I would have to run to the drug store Friday after I said I wasn’t going anywhere. Isn’t that ironic! Then I got to thinking, my mom had said several times over the past month that she would like to have a full length mirror in her room. Light bulb. DUH! There’s the present that I was looking for. No silly cat item. Get the mirror, dummy. I told Oldest that maybe Saturday we would run to Walmart or Target to see if we could find one. Then Friday morning, hubby needed some antifreeze and since I needed cold med for Oldest, would I just go on to Walmart and get what he needed. Sure, why not! Been running around all week, I can do one more day. UGH! But I have to say, we did good. We found a very nice mirror with the brackets to hang it up with. Oh, they didn’t have the cold medicine that I like, so we had to make yet another stop at the drug store.

Please, Can I Stop NOW!!

I have some wrapping to do tomorrow. I have some grocery shopping to take care of on Monday. But I will say this…I am not, will not, no you can not make me leave this house today or tomorrow.ย  I am tired! I don’t need or want anything. I love Christmas, but I will be glad when my life goes back to being dull and boring with no place to go. ๐Ÿ™‚

So what do you get the person that wants everything, but doesn’t need or even use it after you get it for them? That is my mom…one of the hardest people any more to buy for. Oldest had been counting the days till she could go Christmas shopping for the family.ย  Her daddy took her out Sunday night to get mine. Although they said she didn’t buy one thing for me, then mysteriously disappeared into the garage for about 30 minutes Monday evening. She was excited to finally get to shop. I hadn’t taken her the past few times I went. Kinda hard to shop for her when she is standing right beside you.ย  We headed out on Monday morning to have some fun and get the rest of her shopping done. Sis and dad were gonna be easy, but this year, Oldest said we had to find something for grandma with a cat on it. That way she would actually like or use what we bought.

Two years ago, my mom hinted that she really needed flannel sheets. For that Christmas, I bought her a set.ย  We moved here and ended up leaving the bed that was in her room. When she bought her new one, she bought a smaller bed. No more flannel sheets. I also bought her Mickey mouse pajamas. She loves Mickey or so I thought. I have seen her in them one time and that was last Christmas. Last year, she said she needed a new pair of house shoes. Now I bought her a pair the year before, never seen her wear them. She never once told me that they were the wrong size or I would have taken them back. She told me that the arthritis in her feet made the ones she had feel tight. She even picked out the pair she wanted one day when we were out but put them back. I made my way back to that store, fought the hoard of people shopping a couple of days before Christmas, stood in a line for atleast 40 minutes for her never to wear those stupid shoes. She told me recently they were too big. OMG lady. I got the wrong size twice? HOW???

One thing that you can never go wrong with is buying that woman something with a cat on it. You see, my mom loves cats๐Ÿพ and every time she sees something with a cat on it, she just ooohs and awwws about it. Well, right before Thanksgiving, we seen a huge throw with a picture of a cat on it. The perfect present! ๐ŸŽ Of course, I couldn’t buy it then and the next time we went, it was gone. Then my mom started talking about it, hinting. But every time we went, it was no where to be found. On Sunday, I looked it up on the website and it said that the store I shopped in had it in stock. I could order it and pick it up that day. Since we were going up there, I thought I would just hold off and take another look around to see if they had it. We walked the area atleast 2 times trying to find the throw or a person to ask for help.ย  I finally found a sales associate and showed her the picture. Well, she didn’t speak English very well, so she just pointed in the vicinity.ย  We walked around the housewares area again. The next guy I found, said he hadn’t seen them, but check in the back at the site to store area. Oldest and I eventually made our way back there, after picking up Little L’s present. The line was long. Long enough I wasn’t standing in it. So we went on. A little while later, we headed back to the back to see if the line had died down. It had. I walked right up to the counter and there was an assistant manager working. I showed her the picture and asked where it was. She said that she had actually tried to find it the day before and couldn’t. I told her that there were a ton up front right before Thanksgiving, but the person I wanted it for was with me. The next time they were gone. I said there is no way you sold out of them that quick. There were just too many. She just shook her head and said sorry. Then threw in that if I did find them in the store to come back and let her know.

We gave up after that and started looking at other things. After another 20 minutes of walking around that store, the only damn thing we could find was a night gown with drawn on cats. We also found a cat calendar to go with it. Oh boy, yeah, score! *sarcasm in case you couldn’t tell*ย  They say that it is the thought that counts, right? I sure hope that that’s true.ย  I like practical gifts. I asked for pillows and that is what she got me. Pillows…nice, new, fluffy, can’t wait till Christmas night to sleep on those bad boys…Pillows! ๐Ÿ™‚
