It has been a crazy day. I have been baking for a few hours. Not much, just some fudge and cookies. But I have been trying to do other things in between the taking out and putting in of the goodies. Daddy let Oldest put some presents under the tree earlier. I thought we were going to wait till tonight like we usually do, but he said it was ok. Last night we got in a bit of a tiff over letting the girls open up a present on Christmas eve. It is the same argument every year. He says that when he was a kid, they waited till Christmas morning.Β  When I was a kid, we opened one up on Christmas eve. Just one. I remember one year she didn’t open anything until Christmas morning, because he threw such a fuss over it. I always pick out a special something for them to open,Β  usually pajamas. Last year, they opened one early and he didn’t get upset. After going to bed mad at each other, and I didn’t make him his big breakfast that he likes, he told me while the kids were putting out the presents, that they could open one tonight.

When I wrapped Little L’s presents, I put the name tags on them as I went, like any normal person. When I wrapped the ones for Oldest a few days later, I was going to do the name tags later. Today, while putting out a couple of things for her I was going to write the name tags. There was a big box and a small box. For the life of me I couldn’t think of what was in the small box. I looked at it, shook it, felt around on the box. Nothing was coming to me. Good thing I made a list. I had to look at it to remember. My memory is definitely gone, I tell ya.

I few more things to get done and that’s it. Just waiting on the jolly man in red to come visit. Even though Little L is sick she is still excited. After we set out the presents, she wanted to start opening them. But she is being good and left them alone when we told her we had to wait.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas Eve and a very Merry Christmas!! πŸ™‚

This was written last year around this time, and for the life of me I do not know why I didn’t post it. Read on…

My Oldest has always believed in Santa. She also believes that a fairy comes into her room and leaves money for her teeth, and that their is a big furry rabbit that scampers about at Easter, hiding eggs all about the house. You may think that she is too old for this. I might say I agree…atleast about the fairy and rabbit. But without believing in them, it may be hard for her to believe that there really is a Santa Claus. While we were painting on our crafts, she got to talking about Santa. “Mommy, some say that there really is no Santa Claus. Is that true?” I kept painting and said, “Well, they must not believe in him. If you believe, then he is real.” She was quiet for a moment then said, “OK, pinky swear that he is real.” We wrapped our pinkies together and I said, “As long as you believe honey, then there is a Santa.” She was quite happy with that and went back to her painting.

My hubby and my mom have both said that she knows that he isn’t real. I told them they are wrong. 1. Why would she bother to write a letter. 2. See above conversation.

She will catch on sooner or later. Maybe there is a tiny part of her that knows, deep down, that there isn’t a big guy in a red suit coming into your house and leaving those wonderful, expensive presents behind. But for right now, I am happy that she still wants to believe in him, ya know. And hopefully when that day comes, she won’t ruin it for her little sister, who is just finding out about this magical, wonderful time of year. πŸ™‚

Things have changed this year. Oldest did figure it out. I am rather relieved that she did. It was getting harder and harder to keep up the charade now that she is getting older. Now she can help me play Santa for her sister and so far, she is really enjoying it.

Last night I started to write a post telling about decorating the Christmas tree earlier that afternoon. Well, my big fat fingers hit a key and deleted the whole thing. After a few select words that I yelled out,Β  I gave up and went to watch some old episodes of The Walking Dead with hubby.

So tonight I am going to try to type out the blog. I am sure I don’t remember word for word, but maybe it will come back to me…

Earlier this afternoon, I got out the ornaments for the girls to put on the tree. Oldest was showing Little L how to hang them up and after each one she would yell out “Me did it, me did it!” Then promptly asked for another ornament. I have tons so it was easy to fill the tree quickly. Some I wasn’t going to put on, but since she kept asking, I kept handing them to her. After a little while, Oldest got bored with the whole thing, and disappeared off to her room. L and I kept up the decorating and put some more things throughout the house. She is definitely into this Christmas thing. I love that she is having so much fun.

Hurry up mom, I got work to do!

Finding just the right place.

As we were lying down for her to go to sleep, I asked if she was excited about Christmas coming. She said yes. “What about Santa?” I said, “you excited for him?” She nodded. “Wonder what good ole Santa will bring you?” She says with sheer delight, “TOYS!” “Oh he is, is he?” “Going to bring you a new toy, well that is what he is supposed to do. And is he going to bring Sissy one too?” I asked. “Yes,” she said as she closed her eyes and started to drift off to sleepy slumber land.

I love this time of year!

Thanks for reading. πŸ™‚

Another Christmas has come and gone. I am sad to see it go. After we put the rest of the presents under the tree and I took my traditional pictures of the calm before the storm, we turned out the lights. The glow from the Christmas tree was beautiful with all the gifts underneath. I just stood back and took it all in.

Christmas morning came and the girls were excited. Little L was actually shaking when she seen her new dolly from Santa peeking out of her stocking. They both got what they asked for. L got a new pair of house shoes and the doll was an added surprise. Santa knows her so well! Oldest got her Sims 4 computer game she wanted and a ton of other goodies. Little girl was worn out and was asleep for her nap as soon as her head hit the bed.

Christmas eve I baked way to many cookies…we still have some. The goodies need to be gone now. I am actually tired of chocolate. I thought I would never hear my self say those words. *Gasp*

All in all it was a great week for us. I have not left the house since Tuesday (Yeah) and it has felt so nice. I will have to venture out soon to get milk. Just trying to wait out the crowds.

Oh do you want to know what my kids got me for Christmas? I got a…wait for it…Elf on the Shelf! It’s not one that you can pose tho, he just sits. But it is cool and I like it! πŸ™‚

It’s finally here. We have made it! Both girls woke up in a great mood. I could have sworn Little L said Merry Christmas this morning to me. We are getting ready to get cleaned up and take some Christmas Eve pictures by the tree. I finally got my Nativity scene put out. It’s in the middle of the dining table so no little hands can grab and break it.

Right now Little L is running circles through the living room hollering and having a good time. She stops every now and then to watch some Christmas cartoons on the t.v. Great day so far.

Must get in the kitchen soon to bake some cookies. Chocolate chip for Santa of course and peanut butter with hershey kisses per request of Oldest this year. We have cheesecake for dad and peach pie for me. Grandma bought a chocolate silk pie for her. Little L has no preference, she will try them all!

Thanks to all for reading my blog and may this Christmas bring you joy and peace! πŸ™‚

My pretty little Elf.

My pretty little Elf.

On one of my trips out last week, I went into the dollar store to pick up a few odds and ends. I was mainly looking for stocking stuffers for Little L to open on Christmas morning. Oldest was easy peasy! I got her some candy and a few girly things. But for someone that is under 2, I was lost. I was browsing through the Christmas candy and up above what I was looking at, I seen what I wanted. Some wonderful Christmas board books. When Oldest was little, I would buy her all kinds of books from the dollar store. She loved books. Little L on the other hand loves to chew on them. It was so hard to read to her too. I would get a page into the story and she would either fight to turn the page or just take the book out of my hands. Well the week before last, something wonderful happened. I picked up her Velveteen Rabbit book and started to read it to her and she actually let me get through the whole book! I was so very happy, you would not believe. Oldest loved to hear the stories from the get go. She still had her moments when she gnawed on the ends of one, but not like L.

I picked out five Christmas books for her. I wanted more, there were more, but I had to draw the line. Right. I ended up getting her a couple more regular little books also. SO I decided to give her one book every night until Christmas starting on Saturday, and put the regular story books in her stocking. She was excited when Oldest gave her the first one, Santa Claus. She let us read it, and has been very good and not chewed on it as of yet. Sunday night I gave her one about a reindeer named Munch that was looking for some lunch. Very cute indeed. I love rhyming books. She let sissy ready it to her and then she looked at all the pretty pictures.

Just three more nights to go…Β  πŸ™‚

Our tree went up last Monday night but we didn’t actually start to decorate it till last night. Oldest and I have spent the week painting the crapload of ornaments we made last weekend out of salt dough. (I honestly don’t know what we were thinking.) We weren’t getting much done, so we decided to stay up late Friday night, after Little L went off to dreamland, and paint our little hearts out. Luckily L dropped out about 8 p.m., no nap that day. So we got an early start. We did have loads of fun painting and laughing and pigging out on chocolate covered pretzels. We had a pile of good ornaments and a pile of failed ornaments. Let’s just say, artists we are not! But we tried atleast. Oldest thought it was hilarious that when every time we made a mistake, I would say, “I can fix that!” But alas, not everything could be fixed.

We also had 2 small canvas’ that oldest did some Christmas scenes on. She did a handprint and made our family into snowmen, and the other a fingerprint Christmas tree. Of course, we got the ideas from Pinterest and they turned out really cute.

The Christmas after oldest was born, I bought 2 sets of ornaments. One is Rudolph and the other Mickey’s Christmas Carole. I love those sets. It is all the characters from both shows. They are non-breakable and just fun to look at. So after dinner yesterday, we pulled out those ornaments so Little L could play with and try to put on the tree. She had fun putting them on, then of course taking them right back off. Most people with a toddler have a tree that is decorated from the bottom half way up. Ours is decorated from the top to half way down. She definitely had a blast playing and it continued today. I tried to put some on the tree, but nope, not gonna happen right now.

Then later on, she got her fist taste of a candy cane. Daddy bought some and had oldest put them all over the tree. When L spotted them, she had to have it. Daddy opened it for her and it took her a minute but she seemed to like them.

Tonight we are hopefully going into town and look at the Christmas lights. The city has 1.5 million lights on display every night. Can’t wait to see them.

Thanks for reading! πŸ™‚

Yeah, it’s finally time to start on some Christmas crafts. Oldest and I got one of the foam craft kits complete. It is a Nativity scene that is way cute.

20141114_220039

We are halfway through the second one. Some of the stickers keep falling off and it is slowing us down. I like the kits that are stickers, but this one just don’t want to stay put.

Our other project is doing some salt dough ornaments. I found a set of 5 cookie cutters in Walgreen’s for .99 cent. Can’t beat that, right? Nope, I jumped on that bad boy as soon as I seen it. We made the first batch last week when oldest got done with school. Then I got the bright idea, I actually blame pinterest though, to make handprint santa’s. Oldest did hers, then I had to get Little L’s. Which was not so easy. She didn’t want to play in the dough. Oh come on, if I wanted her to stay out, she would have cried and wanted to play in it. This time, it was the other way around. I put some on a plate and brought it in the living room, sat down on the table and said play. She wasn’t going for it. I think she knew I was up to something. I gave up after awhile and went on to make dinner. Afterwards, I asked hubby to help me get her to do it. I put some more on a plate, and we sat down together on the couch. Little L was curious, she was definitely circling the area but kept telling us no when we said come play with it. Hubby got an idea to put his hand right above it and he made a weird humming noise then he took his hand down. He did this over and over, she got closer and closer and then started putting her hand near it. Took a few more times, and she was actually hovering her hand over top. He took his shot and smooshed her hand down into the dough. You should have heard the cries. I grabbed the plate and headed back into the kitchen, while he consoled the screaming mislead child!

They turned out pretty cute, if I do say so myself. 20141203_221241Here are some of the ornaments that we have gotten done. Well, mostly that is. Some needs some finale touches.

20141203_221314Thanks for looking, more to come soon! πŸ™‚

Oh the holiday season is upon us. I absolutely love this time of year! Always have and hopefully always will. Here are a few things that I enjoy from the start to the end. For one, the food, come on, you got to love. the. food. One year we did ham for Thanksgiving, then Christmas we had turkey. I think I like it the other way around. The way it is supposed to be. My oldest asked me if we were having ham for Thanksgiving. Nope, I want to do turkey again. Can we please have ham for Christmas? Why yes child, yes, we shall have ham. Last year, Little L couldn’t eat alot. She tried out the mashed potatoes, the sweet potatoes and had a little bit of cream from one of the pies. She is a lover of her momma’s mashed taters now. No box of instant for this family, nope they have to be real potatoes, or my hubby won’t eat them. She is not too fond of sweet potatoes tho. She loved them when she was trying out new food, but now, can’t get her to touch them. Oh well, will try again here soon enough. I never could get Oldest to eat them once she got on to solid food. I just don’t know why. She is and always has been way too picky about her food.

Stores are filled with pretties! I love to walk the isles of the stores and eww and awww over all the goodies they bring in. Oldest and I play around with the hats and take pictures. We have a good time being silly. I also say I want practically everything they have. I love decorations. I have crates and crates of ornaments that I have collected over the years.

Christmas Crafts. We love doing crafts around the holidays. Oldest and I went to Michael’s craft store the other day andΒ  picked out some foam craft projects for Christmas. They were having really good sales so we had to do it. Only bought 2, may go back and get another. We started on one last night after Little L went to bed. We both can’t wait till she is older and can play with us. Right now, we would be missing pieces and she would be trying to eat them, if we let her participate. Two years ago, I found a Nativity Scene in Kmart that you had to paint. We had a blast working on it together. Love those memories!

Decorating the house. My hubby hates when I say pull all the crates out. He will do it though, because 1. He knows I will keep bugging him until he does and 2. He knows how much I love to decorate. The only bad part is that this year, I won’t be able to put as much out as I have in the past. Little L will not leave things alone. She is pretty tall and if she wants it, she will find a way to get it. I have a sofa table that sits empty now thanks to her long reach. Where am I going to put my Nativity Scene??

Putting up the tree. πŸŽ„πŸŽΆOH Christmas tree oh Christmas tree…🎢 We have a 7ft. artificial that was given too us by a lady I used to work with. This will make its 4th Christmas with us. It is huge and already has the lights on it. I told oldest that we may not put any ornaments on it this year, since L still puts things in her mouth. She was a bit disappointed but understood. Oldest was really good around the tree when she was that age, so L might surprise me… nah…

Christmas music. Yes, I love Christmas music. I have heard all the moans and groans when they start to play it, but it just gets you in the mood of being jolly and festive. When I worked, a lot of the employees would fuss when the radio station went to holiday music. Not me, I looked forward to it. Even last night, when we were doing our family time, oldest and I were singing Christmas songs to Little L. Daddy joined in and even L started singing.

Last but not least,

Driving around the neighborhoods looking at the lights. I love doing this, everything is so pretty and lit up. Some people go all out and some keep it nice and simple. Either way, I love the show.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving and a great start to this holiday season! πŸ— β›„Β  πŸŽ… πŸŽ„ πŸŽ€

When my oldest was the only child, buying for her at Christmas time was quite a task. She would always ask for a million things, and then change her mind at the last minute. One year, she even said she was going to wait till Christmas eve and make her wish for what she wanted. I tried and tried for weeks to get her to tell me or her dad in time to get what she desired. “Good grief child,” I told her. “Santa doesn’t work like that and you have to make your list early.” She finally told us a few days out that she wanted Minecraft for the XBox. My hubby took me to work one day and he stopped by the game store and got it. Whew…crisis diverted. The year before that, we saw the cutest Christmas cartoon on t.v. Jingle All The Way. If you haven’t had the oppurtunity to see it, you should. It is on the Hallmark channel. We were walking through Walmart shortly after watching the cartoon and there was this huge display of Jingle puppies with a story book. You read the story and when you said certain phrases or words, the dog would bark. Cutest. Thing. Ever. She decided that that was what she wanted Santa to bring. I went back the next day and bought it before heading off to work. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Now if you did watch the t.v. show, you know at the end that Jingle was given a home and he was under the Christmas tree waiting to be found. That is just how I did it. I put him in the middle and piled all the other gifts all around him. She was soooooooo surprised when she removed the box that blocked him completely.Β  She couldn’t get over the fact that Santa had put him under the tree just like in the story. Best present ever I have to say.

Last year she couldn’t make up her mind what she wanted. So I just picked something out that she had seen in the store and said she would like to have. She was actually pretty happy with the choice too. Santa had also got her sister a stuffed animal that she had said she wanted to get for her, but she never went back to do it. That made her even more happy that Santa did that. This year she has picked out another stuffed animal that she hopes he will bring to her baby sis. I just hope they have it when I get to go shopping.

She is keeping her wish list once again a secret. She has hinted around for concert tickets but I sure hope she doesn’t ask Santa for that. Geeze Louise! Santa doesn’t do concert tickets. That is all I need again.

Thanks for reading! πŸ˜‰
