Well hello there, long time no see. I know, I know, I have been MIA around here. I took a break from the blogging over summer to spend some time with the girls and quite frankly I just couldn’t make myself sit down to type. I had lots of crazy stuff to post, but the words just wasn’t there. So here I am a few months later, trying to get back into the swing of things.

Just some quick updates for this post: Oldest made it to her 5 Seconds of Summer concert on the 10th. She had a blast and I have to say that I did too. Just watching her was good enough for me. She had the biggest grin on her face the whole time and when those boys came out on stage, she didn’t stop once. I am glad that it is done…she was driving me crazy with the everyday countdown over the summer. “Mom, 45 days.” “Mom, 19 days.” “Mom, just 5 days.” All summer long. But it’s all good. She walked away with a concert t-shirt that cost $40. Yikes! and she got a poster of one of the opening bands.

Oldest is in her last year of middle school this year. School started back in August and she was ready to get back. Little L turned 3 in June. I made a The Good Dinosaur cake for her and had lots of decorations and presents. Took a ton a pictures and spent the rest of the month working on my scrapbooking.

Since fall has returned and we are very happy to have some cooler temps around here, I have gotten into my Halloween crafting. Oldest and I found out we both love Shrinky Dinks. I found some really cute ideas and we had to run to the craft store. After we made a ton, we were like, what should we do with them. So we opened our own store on Etsy to sell them for charm bracelets, magnets, and pins. It has been opened a little over a week I think. We haven’t made a sell as of yet, but I am hopeful. Here is the link if anyone wants to check them out. Tracystrinketshop

I am in the process of making some new ones and looking forward to making some ornaments out of them for Christmas. Hoping that you see something you like.

Well thanks for reading and I hope to be posting some more stuff soon.

We had an early Thanksgiving this year. Today I baked 2 pies and a ham, per the request of hubby and Oldest. Tomorrow I get to do a turkey, and all the trimmings. My mom thinks I am nuts. “It’s just the 5 of us!” she says, as I was loading a ham into the cart the other day. “I know, but you only live once,” I said.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! 🙂

Very Long Monday

Cold weather finally set in yesterday. It has been getting down into the 40’s at night, but warming up into the high 60’s ans 70’s once that sun comes out. But yesterday, it was cloudy and windy and then it rained and rained for a good part of the day and night. Today, it was still cold and windy and lots of dark clouds. With this “looks like snow weather”, Little L has gone total stir crazy. She has so much stored up energy, she doesn’t know what to do with it. She has resorted to climbing up on the back of the love seat, and then sliding down and bouncing. Scaring the life right out of me, everytime I see her do it. I have yelled, threatened, and even spanked her little tushy, but to no avail, she still continues to do it.

This morning, around 10ish, she decided to go into a chant about going to the park. I kept telling her no, not today, too cold out, maybe end of the week. She would not hear of it, and continue on her quest to take her to the park right that minute. Oldest was trying to do her school work and it was getting rather hard to concentrate through the screams. I finally got her to quit around noon, when I made her lunch. Then she wouldn’t go down for her nap, which isn’t unusual anymore. So around 3, my hubby needed me to run to the bank. I tried to get out of it and say I would go in the morning, but he needed me to go right then, was an emergency ya know. While I was getting dressed, L got all happy and said she was going, put on her shoes. I told her no, not today. She cried, begged, whined and pleaded to go. Finally hubby said, get her dressed he would go too. I just love family outings…

Since we were out and I hadn’t bought my turkey for Thanksgiving yet, I had him stop by the little Walmart on the way home. Just the girls and I went in. At first, L was doing just fine, the store wasn’t that crowded and she was running around looking at stuff, then she wanted to push the cart. Which wouldn’t be a problem if she would let either Oldest or I help. Every time we touched the cart, she would yell and everything would stop. I was getting tired and very impatient. I only had a couple of things I wanted to get for next week and I was not making any progress. After more threats, begging and pleading on my part, she got up into the cart and I grabbed a couple of things on my list and we hit the checkout. She kept asking me for goldfish, (cause the last time I bribed her into the cart with a bag of goldfish.) I didn’t see any close by, so I got her a bag of cheetos at the checkout stand.

In a couple of days, the weather is supposed to warm back up and I promised I would take her to the park as soon as it did. Another hour and she should be asleep and I can maybe have a couple of hours of quiet before hitting the hay myself. It has been a very long Monday!

Thanks for reading! 🙂

T-minus 12 days and counting.

I have 4 pies in my freezer that we bought at the beginning of the month. And I have to say, right now, they are calling my name. I could eat one and not think another thought about it. But I won’t. I will be good and wait those 12 long days to bite into those delicious, ooey, gooey, yummy treats.

I will be good…

I will be good…

I will be good…

I need a snack!

Bit of a slump

Posted: November 9, 2015 in blog, crafts, Fall, family, kids, ramblings

I have been in a bit of a slump on writing lately. It is already the 9th day of a new month and I have only written 2 posts. Now I am not an everyday writer, but I do try to turn one out every other day or so. I blame my lack of blogging on my other hobby. I have been working furiously on my scrapbook pages for Halloween (last year and this year), everyday. I have several pages actually glued down. I  thought I  would get all the layouts done first, then glue all at once. Just incase I changed my mind. I do have commitment issues when it comes to scrapbooking. But today I thought, what the heck, just start glueing. And it felt good, a scense of accomplishment.  I would like to get done, so I could go on to other themes. Plus there is some crafting we want to do for Christmas that needs to be started soon.

The girls are doing good. We went up to the park on Friday for about an hour. It was packed. The schools here were on a half day, and it was a beautiful fall afternoon, so I guess they all congregated to the park the minute the bell rang. Little L is definitely not afraid to get in the middle of the big kids though when it comes to going down a slide. Oldest just wanted to swing, but had to wait a long time to get her turn. Then when she did get on one, the younger kids would come up and stare at her. It has always made her uncomfortable and since we have embedded into her to share since she was little, she would give in way to easily.  That evening, her friend came over and stayed the night. She has a ghost app on her phone and she has a homemade ouji board, so they spent most of the evening saying there was spirits around us. They went outside after dark to use the ghost app and got spooked, she asked her dad if they could sit in the truck to do their summoning. They are too funny.

The rest of the weekend went by pretty fast. Spent Sunday doing some grocery shopping and everyone plus their mother was there. We made it in and out and back home in record time. I hope that that wasn’t an inkling on how the next 2 months are going to be. If it is, I just want to stay home. 🙂

Well it is the 2nd day of October and time to get into the haunting mood. I love hearing and reading ghost stories, so I am always looking for ones that aren’t that scary that I can tell to my kids. Little L is loving the idea of Halloween. She runs around the house pretending to be a ghost and tries to scare us. Yesterday, she told me there was a ghost in Sissy’s room. I had to go investigate, with her right behind me. We crept into her room and looked around. I told her there were no ghosties. She then said they were in our room. We went back and forth like this for a little bit, til she got distracted and went on to something else.

So if you are looking for a couple good not so scary stories for the younger kids this Halloween, look no further. I ran upon these the other day doing some ghost hunting myself and thought I would share them.

The Pink Jellybean

At the end of a long, dark road is a long, dark path.

At the end of the long, dark path is a lone, dark house.

And the lone, dark house has a single, dark door.

Behind the single, dark door is a long, dark hall.

At the end of the long, dark hall are some tall, dark stairs.

At the top of the tall, dark stairs is a long dark balcony.

At the end of the long, dark balcony is a big dark room.

In the big, dark room is a big, dark closet.

In the big, dark closet is a big, dark door.

Behind the big, dark door are some steep, dark stairs.

At the top of the steep, dark stairs is a dark, dusty attic.

In the dark, dusty attic is a big, dark chest.

In the big, dark chest is a small, dark box.

And in the small, dark box is a Pink Jellybean!

Hairy Toe

retold by S.E. Schlosser

Once there was an old woman who went out in the woods to dig up some roots to cook for dinner. She spotted something funny sticking out of the leaves and dug around until she uncovered a great big hairy toe. There was some good meat on that toe which would make a real tasty dinner, so the old woman put it in her basket and took it home.

When she got back to her cottage, the old woman boiled up a kettle-full of hairy toe soup, which she ate for dinner that night. It was the best meal she’d had in weeks! The old woman went to bed that night with a full stomach and a big smile.

Along about midnight, a cold wind started blowing in the tops of the trees around the old woman’s house. A large black cloud crept over the moon and from the woods a hollow voice rumbled: “Hairy toe! Hairy toe! I want my hairy toe!” Inside the house, the old woman stirred uneasily in her bed and nervously pulled the covers up over her ears.

From the woods there came a stomp-stomp-stomping noise as the wind whistled and jerked at the treetops. In the clearing at the edge of the forest, a hollow voice said: “Hairy toe! Hairy toe! I want my hairy toe!” Inside the house, the old woman shuddered and turned over in her sleep.

A stomp, stomp, stomping sound came from the garden path outside the cottage. The night creatures shivered in their burrows as a hollow voice howled: “Hairy toe! Hairy toe! I want my hairy toe!” Inside the house, the old woman snapped awake. Her whole body shook with fright as she listened to the angry howling in her garden. Jumping out of bed, she ran to the door and barred it. Once the cottage was secure, she lay back down to sleep.

Suddenly, the front door of the cottage burst open with a bang, snapping the bar in two and sending it flying into the corners of the room. There came the stomp, stomp, stomping noise of giant feet walking up the stairs. Peeping out from under the covers, the old woman saw a massive figure filling her doorway. It said: “Hairy toe! Hairy toe! I want my hairy toe!”

The old woman sat bolt upright in terror and shouted: “I ATE your hairy toe!”

“Yes, you did,” the giant figure said very gently as it advanced into the room.

No one living in the region ever saw the old woman again. The only clue to her disappearance was a giant footprint a neighbor found pressed deep into the loose soil of the meadow beside the house. The footprint was missing the left big toe.

I finally got some of the crafts that I had been working on done before October officially started. I hung a couple of things up today and I need to figure out where the rest will go. First, I did my Boo sign.

I didn’t want to buy the wooden letters at Michael’s and Hobby Lobby is a little far for me to drive to check out the prices, so I kept a big diaper box and used the cardboard to make the letters. Then I used some extra scrapbook paper to cover the letters. They are not perfect but I think it looks pretty cool like that.  Next is our popsicle stick creations. Now I got this idea from __________. Oh come on, you know where I have been hanging out. Pinterest!

Hee hee so what do you think? Aren’t they cute?! Oldest wanted to make her ghost have a mustache and have beaty eyes, apparently. But she did do a good job on the pumpkin and spider faces! At first I was going to put magnets on the back but my fridge is full and I don’t want them too low for little hands to reach and tear apart. L is pretty good at destroying everything in her path nowadays. She picked up the Boo sign a few days ago and said, “Awesome!” then ripped the letters apart after I glued the ribbon on. So now it is up on the wall for her to admire, from afar!

Another thing I worked on was this little wreath.

I made this out of toilet paper rolls. You would not believe how many crafts you can do with toilet paper rolls. When I seen it, I was like, hey I never thought of this. This is too cool. (I know…nerd) But it is pretty neat what all you can make. The wreath, I painted in Halloween colors, then put some mod podge stuff on each one to make them a little shinier and harder to tear up. I had it together and hung it up today, took a pic, then noticed it was crooked. Luckily I had a few extra pieces leftover and so I added them and made it look more round. It isn’t perfect, but hey nothing that you make off of Pinterest is. 😉

I hope you enjoyed viewing and maybe will try to make some too. Would love to see them if you do! 🙂

Fall Crafts

I hope everyone had a wonderful first day of Fall. The weather here is still pretty much summertime. High 90’s with lots of sun. Monday and Tuesday were both nice, lots of clouds Monday and we had some rain in our area early Tuesday morning. Even though the sun came out Tuesday, there were still clouds to help keep the temp down. They are saying around 100 for the next week on. I don’t think it is ever going to go away.

I used to hate to see summer end. Although I have always been a big fan of Halloween, seeing September come meant shorter days and cold weather was upon us. Now I feel a bit differently. I still love Summer, but I think Fall is my new season of choice.

I have really thrown myself into these Fall and Halloween crafts. I got a few done and then realized, OMG first day of fall is around the corner! So I had to make something really quick. I think it turned out pretty good. But in my quest do get it done by the 23rd, I totally spaced taking pictures until it was completely put together and hanging on the wall.

I added the leaves (since we had played around and made so many), because there was a flaw on the A after Oldest got it all glued down. Once I added the big leaf, I thought, oh what the heck and added the 2 small ones. There are so many cool ideas out there but I have to realize there is just not enough time. Especially since there is a countdown on Facebook everyday telling me that Halloween is getting closer and closer. Yea yea, I know this so shut up already! It also means there is going to be a Birthday girl in the house pretty soon. Lots to do in the next 30 days that is for sure.

Thanks for reading!  🙂
