Last year, hubby brought in all the Christmas decorations around Thanksgiving. I thought that it was kinda early so this year, I told him to wait until the 10th to bring them in. But I couldn’t do it, I went out today and got the crates out of the garage, with his help of course, and brought the tree in. I put out some decorations throughout the afternoon and then after we had dinner, he helped me set up the tree. It is one of those pre-lit trees, and we have had it for several years now. Last year it had a few branches at the bottom not working, so we turned them around to the wall. This year, I have a whole row in the top that isn’t working. It has to be a blown bulb, hubby says. I turned off the living room light and it looks really nice other then that one area. Tomorrow we are getting out the crate that has my lights in it, so I will just string a set around the top and call it good. Later in the week I will let the girls put the ornaments on then I will go back later when they aren’t looking and fix them. It’s funny how particular you get over the years about where a certain ornament should be. I have my favorites and I want them out front, of course.

I have 2 sets of ornaments that I bought for Oldest when she was a baby. Rudolph and Mickey’s Christmas Carol. I always hung them at the bottom  so she could play with them, but to my surprise, she was a good baby when it came to the tree. Last year, Little L loved the sets so much, they were lying on the coffee table by the tree more then on it. After Christmas, I took out all the hooks out and let her play with them. I went on a search last week and found almost all of them. Baby Rudolph is missing, and I have 2 that are broke. Hubby is going to superglue the 2 back together and hopefully I will come across baby Rudolph before Christmas eve. 🙂

Oldest wanted to go to the library today and since we hadn’t been for awhile, I decided to to take Little L with us. Last time we went, I let Oldest run in and get a couple of books while we sat in the car, because I didn’t want a fight to leave and we had other errands to run that day. But today was a free day and I was going to take them to the park afterwards, but that thought went out the window after we passed it on the way to the library. It was jammed packed. Since the weather is still warm here, they play sports all year round practically and today they had soccer in one field and a baseball game in another.

We got to the Library and went into the children’s play area while Oldest went to look for some books. She made 2 friends while there. First a girl that was several years older, she actually sat down and was reading to her. Before she left, another little boy joined in. They were having a good time, then the girl had to go, but L and the boy, which she kept calling him “brother” kept up their game. It was getting time for us to leave, we had been there well over an hour and Oldest was getting bored. The boy’s mom came over and asked if he was doing ok. I said yes, but I needed to leave so she got him to go with her so I could get L. I had to pick her up and carry her out, but she didn’t kick and scream like she did at that park. When I told her I had fruit snacks in the car, she actually walked with no problem through the parking lot and got in her seat like a big girl.

So glad I remembered to pack them fruit snacks. 😉

Oldest had been wanting to dye her hair a wild and crazy color for awhile. I told her that she could after school let out. Which was last Friday.  She asked her dad if she could have some money to get the dye. He said he would give it to her and she could do any color she wanted, only if she went 6, yes 6! months without makeup. Wow! Is all I could say. She hadn’t been wearing makeup like she used too, but she still liked to play with it. She thought about it for a couple of days,  then said ok she would do it. She had also been planning the color that she wanted. She decided on using Splat! Emerald green. She had wanted to do mutiple colors but I told her it could only be one color. I took her to Walmart on Wednesday.  The only color they had on the shelf was Blue Envy. I told her that we could stop by Walgreens on the way home to see if they had the Emerald green. She said blue was good, that she would just do that.

She wanted to do it that evening, she was very excited and hyper and driving me up the wall. Later I kept having to tell her. So after dinner we snuck off to the bathroom. First we had to do the bleach/peroxide. It said for her hair color to leave it on atleast 50 minutes, no more then 60. Okey dokey. Then it said afterwards to shampoo out, and it had to be completely dry before putting on the color. So I had to talk her into waiting till morning to finish. She didn’t want to, but her hair is pretty thick in the back, even though it is short. It took 2 bottles of the bleach to cover her hair. After the 50 minutes was up she jumped in the shower. It didn’t lighten up to an even pale blonde all over. The front and top were pretty light but the back came out darker and then we seen that we had apparently missed a few spots. Crap.

We thought about buying more bleach and trying it again, but then after thinking about it and not wanting to damage her hair, I told her that we should just go with the blue and not worry about it. The instructions said that the color will be darker and not as vibrant but with the different strands it should look ok. She agreed, so after breakfast, Thursday morning we started. All I can say is Oh My God. What a freaking mess!!! It is no lie when it says it will stain everything you touch. And it gets everywhere you don’t touch. We got it on her head and waited the hour it said. I wanted to wash it out in the sink but she wanted to do it herself in the shower. “Don’t make a mess.” I believe was my last words to her. I went in a few minutes later to check on her. She had the whole shower covered in blue and it was streaming down her. It looked like a scene out of Phsyco. But this time Norman killed a Smurf instead.    Lord please help me now. I am gonna choke my daughter. Finally after several minutes of rinsing and me losing it, the shit color started to subside. The instructions said to rinse until water ran clear. Sorry you were wrong. There was no running clear. She got it rinsed best she could and shampooed, rinsed again, washed the shower out, then she put her hair in a towel and had to finish washing it off her body.

Well it turned out pretty good. We missed a few places around her scalp. I really don’t know how, but after it dried, we could tell if she parted her hair a certain way. We have more dye left, so we are going to fix those areas this weekend before she washes it again. The sucky part is, it only last 6 weeks. It washes out pretty easily. As it washes out it will go back to the bleach blonde look, which she said was cool with her. Then I said, “And you can also do a different color if you want.” Why oh why did I say that? But in my defense, I said that before the shower. 😉

Tonight I had the joy of cleaning up puke from the kitchen sink. Yes, a wonderful job at 10:00 at night.  Oldest was gargling salt water and her daddy was talking to her when she started coughing.  He was telling her to spit the phlegm out and when she tried, up came dinner. All of it. In the sink. Chunks and all. Ok ok… I will stop with the description. You’re lucky though, I was so wanting to take a pic of it to share.

Oooh, I could have taken a pic and posted it on Facebook saying it was dinner. I wouldn’t have been lying. I really get tired of seeing people’s meals posted, because frankly, the food doesn’t look that good.

But back to Oldest. She was sick after her last sleepover. For two weeks, she was just feeling better down to a little cough. She went for another sleep over at the same kids house. Birthday and all and she really wanted to go. Guess what? Two days later, “mom my throat hurts.” It is never ending. I mean how many times do we have to be sick this spring? I have had enough. Don’t these people ever clean? Every time she goes, she comes back with the sickness.  Her dad and I have grounded her from sleep overs till atleast 2 weeks after school ends. Hopefully all the little germs will be wiped out and we can enjoy her summer break snot free.

And puke free, can’t forget about that. 😉

How many presents are enough for an 18 month old??

Back when oldest was the only child and she was 3 and a half, one of my sister in laws came into some money. She decided that she was going to buy my daughter a mountain of gifts for Christmas that year. You should have seen the tree, it was just really unbelievable. It got to a point that I told her to stop, because I couldn’t compete with all that she was buying. That poor kid was so overwhelmed come Christmas morning, that she didn’t really play with anything. Plus it made it really hard to buy for her over the next couple of years, because she had so much and she had just about everything you could imagine.

When I was growing up, it was me and my two brothers. I was the youngest, my oldest brother didn’t live with us. My mom bought my brother and I the same amount of presents and my oldest brother a few less. She always tried to make it “even” she said. I don’t know if she did this when I was really little, but there was 7 years between the one brother and myself. So I am sure he got a few more things then I did when I was still a toddler.

This year, I bought Little L 4 nice gifts. I got Oldest 9. My mom got Little L 5 gifts and Oldest 7. While I was wrapping some things today, she said that she thought she needed one more thing for Little L. I told her I didn’t think so what she got her was sure to be enough. “Well, I just feel like I didn’t get her enough.” she tells me.  She was trying to make things “even” between the two. I knew what she was doing. I had told her when we started shopping that it was only fair that Oldest gets more. She is 11, and no she doesn’t do toys, she does teenage things, like music, makeup, clothes. Also, I did not want to overwhelm little L by buying her a ton of toys. We went back and forth for a few minutes, I was trying to talk her out of buying one more present for L. I sure hope I succeeded. 🙂

I did some online shopping two days before Thanksgiving. Some things were ready to be picked up that afternoon at 1 Walmart and 4 items had to be shipped in site to store, so I picked the store closest to me. I hate waiting on stuff. I like to shop and get it right then. But several of the items were cheaper if I went online and a couple were sold out in the stores. The next day we (my mom and I) went to the store to get the items. Not a problem. Lady in the site to store department was nice. We bought a few more things and headed home. The next 2 items was coming in on the 1st of December. I got an email on the evening of the 1st that part of my order was in. Well crap, ok, I can deal with that. I made plans to go the next day and hoping that the other item was in by that time. I get to the counter a little after 12 noon. There is the guy with assistant manager on his tag. So he should no what he is doing, right? Wrong. I walk up and tell him I am here to pick up an order. He asks for an order number. I look at the email and it says for them to scan this barcode in the email. He says that that doesn’t work and he takes my phone and starts looking at the email. Rude. Didn’t even ask. He says well I can get it through your name. So he starts reading the email and I look at the screen on the register and it says Last name. He enters my first name then he enters my last name for the first name. It beeps and says nothing found. He does it again. I tell him that he is entering my name wrong. He finally gets it right and the order pops up. I then proceed to ask him if the other item had come in yet. He says oh no, it’s not here. I then tell him it is on the shelf out in the toy department. He ignores me. Meanwhile a girl walks out of the backroom he tells her to go get my order. She doesn’t say anything and goes to the back of the room. Then another lady walks up, her tag also said manager and he starts talking to her. The girl walks back up to the register and I see that she has her wallet in her hands. He says “Did you go get that?” She asks, “What?” He goes, “What are you doing? “Going to break.” “So your not going to get her order?” Do you want me to go get the order?” She asks impatiently. He answers Yes. She looks at the screen and he had written my name down on a piece of paper. “Here is the name.” He goes to hand her the paper and she says, “I got it” rather huffily and walks off. OMG! I couldn’t believe how they were talking to each other, in front of customers too.

I waited for around 5 minutes, another worker emerges from the back and asks me if I needed help. I told her that the other girl went to look for my package.  She finally appears with a box. Says “You can open it” and goes back through the doors. I get the box opened and check it out, looks good, meanwhile wondering if I was done or if she had actually gone back to look for the other box. I then ask the other girl if I was done. I told her that I had another item, but I didn’t know if it had come in. I didn’t know if the other girl had went back to get it or not, she didn’t say. “Oh she does that.” She offers to look for me on the computer. She pulls it up and says “Yep it’s here, I just checked it in a little bit ago.” “Wonderful!” I said. She disappeared to the back and I waited. She came back with my package and I thanked her and thanked her. I got my receipt and headed out.

The one thing that crosses my mind, is that the 2 items had the same order number on them. They both should have been in the same bin. Or so it seems.

The last 2 items were do in on the 9th. I got the email late afternoon on the 8th that 1 thing was ready for pickup. Oh not again. I decided to wait, although it was killing me to do so, another day before going out. Still nothing all day on the 9th and the morning of the 10th. I went ahead and went on to get it. While walking to the site to store area, there was that same man I had to deal with before. This time I had an order number, I told him and he says only 1 item is in. Ok that’s fine. I wasn’t going to say anything else. He got my item, all on his own, (he didn’t have anyone there to boss around, apparently). I got my receipt and left. When I got home, I got an email saying that the rest of my order was in and ready. Lord help me. So I went back to get it yesterday. I didn’t have to deal with the guy he actually was leaving the department when I walked up, I got this older lady that was super nice and even opened the package up herself to make sure it was correct.

I was so happy that that was the last of my order! I am almost finished with my shopping. Just a few stocking stuffers and something else for oldest and I will be all set. Have to wait till the end of next week to get it all done though. Have I ever told you that I hate waiting!

Thanks for reading! 😉

Sunday evening we went down town to the historic part of the city to see the big Christmas light display. I drove, therefor I missed the street that I was wanting to turn onto and had to go to the main street. There were tons of cars everywhere. I really didn’t think that it would have been that busy on a Sunday night. Apparently everyone else was thinking the same thing. I went down the main street inching along, trying to figure out where to park. I had only been in that area a handful of times and at night, I was totally lost. I finally pulled over and I gladly traded places with my hubby. The funny thing was, where I had pulled over was alot closer to the action then where we ended up parking. We had to walk 3 blocks back up. Hundreds of people milling around and all the historic shops were still opened along the way. There was a billboard that read Tea with Cinderella – $10.00. As I read this outloud we walked right passed the window where a real life Cinderella was standing, waving at the passersby. I jumped, of course, not expecting this.

We made it over to the lights and got Little L out of her stroller. She was sooooo excited. Alot different then she had been at the Boo Fest in October. She was ready to go and I mean GO! She grabbed hold of sissy’s hand and pulled her along. Oldest said that she thought that she was going to get trampled a few times by all the people she was being dragged in the middle of. There was music all around, lots of street musicians with there hats out asking for donations and we came across one band that we stopped and listened to for a bit. I got a few nice pictures of the girls. And lots of Crap, she moved! ones. Pleading with a 17 month old to look at mommy in a huge crowd with pretty colorful lights everywhere isn’t the smartest thing I could do. I finally gave up and just enjoyed watching the kids and the scenery. 🎄

Finally, she looked at me!

Finally, she looked at me!

Our tree went up last Monday night but we didn’t actually start to decorate it till last night. Oldest and I have spent the week painting the crapload of ornaments we made last weekend out of salt dough. (I honestly don’t know what we were thinking.) We weren’t getting much done, so we decided to stay up late Friday night, after Little L went off to dreamland, and paint our little hearts out. Luckily L dropped out about 8 p.m., no nap that day. So we got an early start. We did have loads of fun painting and laughing and pigging out on chocolate covered pretzels. We had a pile of good ornaments and a pile of failed ornaments. Let’s just say, artists we are not! But we tried atleast. Oldest thought it was hilarious that when every time we made a mistake, I would say, “I can fix that!” But alas, not everything could be fixed.

We also had 2 small canvas’ that oldest did some Christmas scenes on. She did a handprint and made our family into snowmen, and the other a fingerprint Christmas tree. Of course, we got the ideas from Pinterest and they turned out really cute.

The Christmas after oldest was born, I bought 2 sets of ornaments. One is Rudolph and the other Mickey’s Christmas Carole. I love those sets. It is all the characters from both shows. They are non-breakable and just fun to look at. So after dinner yesterday, we pulled out those ornaments so Little L could play with and try to put on the tree. She had fun putting them on, then of course taking them right back off. Most people with a toddler have a tree that is decorated from the bottom half way up. Ours is decorated from the top to half way down. She definitely had a blast playing and it continued today. I tried to put some on the tree, but nope, not gonna happen right now.

Then later on, she got her fist taste of a candy cane. Daddy bought some and had oldest put them all over the tree. When L spotted them, she had to have it. Daddy opened it for her and it took her a minute but she seemed to like them.

Tonight we are hopefully going into town and look at the Christmas lights. The city has 1.5 million lights on display every night. Can’t wait to see them.

Thanks for reading! 🙂

To start off this first weekend of December, I thought I would post something fun. Hope you enjoy!

Anyone that has or had cats, will relate to what I am about to say. I read a really cute Christmas poem on a blog the other day, (go ahead and check it out here.) It made me remember my experiences with kitty cats at Christmas. I had cats growing up but only had one that got to stay inside all the time. We always had a real tree and she never really bothered it. I remember her chewing on the bottom limbs or swatting at the tinsel. My mom bought her her very own kitty ornaments, that she could play with. She got a new one every year. When I moved out on my own, the first Christmas I didn’t have a cat, the second one, I had 2, but I had a small artificial tree that they didn’t seem interested in. When I got cat number 3, she was a kitten at Christmas time, and thought the tree was just wonderful. I was spending the holidays with my parents and my mom and I went shopping. When we got home, my dad had said my cat broke one of the ornaments. Well of course she did, and what did you know, it was one of my ornaments that I had put high up on the tree. He later told me that he saw her batting at it, but didn’t think it would break.

The next Christmas I put up my tree at my house. The first night, I got in bed and I heard it. Tink tink tink. What the heck? Oh my ornaments. The little buggers had left it alone the whole day, now the lights were out, it was time to play. The next day, I  walked into the living room to find one cat actually hanging out of the middle of it, when I yelled, she knocked the whole tree over!

catintree     catknockdowntree

That’s it, I was not going to have them tear up my tree. I ran out to the store and bought some of that spray stuff that is supposed to keep the animals away from the tree.  That night, I sprayed and sprayed to keep kitty away. It stunk so badly that I wanted to hide. No kidding. The one cat, that liked the ornaments, he backed down the hallway, very slowly, and kept looking at me as to say, “What the hell did you do woman??” It did keep him off of it as long as I sprayed it every night.

So at the last minute, my (now ex) jerk husband, got leave for a few days and wanted to go home. Ok, I asked the neighbor if she would feed and water the cats. Done. Now what do I do with the darn tree. I didn’t want to take it down. I knew it would be destroyed if I left it out in the living room. I know *light bulb* I would carry it into the spare bedroom that was mainly storage and just close the door. Well that was easier said then done. I asked for help, but never got it. So I had to drag the damn tree through the house and down the hallway. Losing ornaments and screaming at the cats to get away every step. I must have looked like a lunatic, now thinking back. But it was safe and sound in the room. When we got back, he actually helped me carry it back out to the living room and you know what, the silly ass cats left it alone the rest of time it was up.

Meowy Christmas! 🐾

Yeah, it’s finally time to start on some Christmas crafts. Oldest and I got one of the foam craft kits complete. It is a Nativity scene that is way cute.

20141114_220039

We are halfway through the second one. Some of the stickers keep falling off and it is slowing us down. I like the kits that are stickers, but this one just don’t want to stay put.

Our other project is doing some salt dough ornaments. I found a set of 5 cookie cutters in Walgreen’s for .99 cent. Can’t beat that, right? Nope, I jumped on that bad boy as soon as I seen it. We made the first batch last week when oldest got done with school. Then I got the bright idea, I actually blame pinterest though, to make handprint santa’s. Oldest did hers, then I had to get Little L’s. Which was not so easy. She didn’t want to play in the dough. Oh come on, if I wanted her to stay out, she would have cried and wanted to play in it. This time, it was the other way around. I put some on a plate and brought it in the living room, sat down on the table and said play. She wasn’t going for it. I think she knew I was up to something. I gave up after awhile and went on to make dinner. Afterwards, I asked hubby to help me get her to do it. I put some more on a plate, and we sat down together on the couch. Little L was curious, she was definitely circling the area but kept telling us no when we said come play with it. Hubby got an idea to put his hand right above it and he made a weird humming noise then he took his hand down. He did this over and over, she got closer and closer and then started putting her hand near it. Took a few more times, and she was actually hovering her hand over top. He took his shot and smooshed her hand down into the dough. You should have heard the cries. I grabbed the plate and headed back into the kitchen, while he consoled the screaming mislead child!

They turned out pretty cute, if I do say so myself. 20141203_221241Here are some of the ornaments that we have gotten done. Well, mostly that is. Some needs some finale touches.

20141203_221314Thanks for looking, more to come soon! 🙂
