Well hello there, long time no see. I know, I know, I have been MIA around here. I took a break from the blogging over summer to spend some time with the girls and quite frankly I just couldn’t make myself sit down to type. I had lots of crazy stuff to post, but the words just wasn’t there. So here I am a few months later, trying to get back into the swing of things.

Just some quick updates for this post: Oldest made it to her 5 Seconds of Summer concert on the 10th. She had a blast and I have to say that I did too. Just watching her was good enough for me. She had the biggest grin on her face the whole time and when those boys came out on stage, she didn’t stop once. I am glad that it is done…she was driving me crazy with the everyday countdown over the summer. “Mom, 45 days.” “Mom, 19 days.” “Mom, just 5 days.” All summer long. But it’s all good. She walked away with a concert t-shirt that cost $40. Yikes! and she got a poster of one of the opening bands.

Oldest is in her last year of middle school this year. School started back in August and she was ready to get back. Little L turned 3 in June. I made a The Good Dinosaur cake for her and had lots of decorations and presents. Took a ton a pictures and spent the rest of the month working on my scrapbooking.

Since fall has returned and we are very happy to have some cooler temps around here, I have gotten into my Halloween crafting. Oldest and I found out we both love Shrinky Dinks. I found some really cute ideas and we had to run to the craft store. After we made a ton, we were like, what should we do with them. So we opened our own store on Etsy to sell them for charm bracelets, magnets, and pins. It has been opened a little over a week I think. We haven’t made a sell as of yet, but I am hopeful. Here is the link if anyone wants to check them out. Tracystrinketshop

I am in the process of making some new ones and looking forward to making some ornaments out of them for Christmas. Hoping that you see something you like.

Well thanks for reading and I hope to be posting some more stuff soon.

I finally got my scrapbook pages done and put away for awhile. Hubby was totally surprised when I cleared off the dining table. No one has been able to use it since Halloween. (I thought I better get it cleaned off for good ole Turkey day or my scrapbook stuff might be thrown out the door.) I did a total of 25 pages, which included this and last years Halloween, 11 and 12th Birthday for Oldest and 1st and 2nd Birthday for Little L. I was slacking big time on all of it. I kept putting it off because I didn’t want L to be in the middle of it. To my surprise, she was actually pretty darn good about the whole thing.

A couple of weeks ago, I got bored with looking at the same old thing over and over, so I walked away from it for awhile and did some Christmas snowflakes to hang up.

I got a little addicted to them since they are super easy to make. I have like 7 made. There are several tutorials I found on Pinterest, and one that I used can be found here. The one above is like my favorite. I have a huge Christmas paper pack that I will never use all the papers out of. When I seen the tutorial I went scrambling for my Christmas scrapbook crate, yes, it has its own crate, and found the papers.

Well thanks for checking out another one of my addictions. If you end up making one I would love to see it! 🙂

Bit of a slump

Posted: November 9, 2015 in blog, crafts, Fall, family, kids, ramblings

I have been in a bit of a slump on writing lately. It is already the 9th day of a new month and I have only written 2 posts. Now I am not an everyday writer, but I do try to turn one out every other day or so. I blame my lack of blogging on my other hobby. I have been working furiously on my scrapbook pages for Halloween (last year and this year), everyday. I have several pages actually glued down. I  thought I  would get all the layouts done first, then glue all at once. Just incase I changed my mind. I do have commitment issues when it comes to scrapbooking. But today I thought, what the heck, just start glueing. And it felt good, a scense of accomplishment.  I would like to get done, so I could go on to other themes. Plus there is some crafting we want to do for Christmas that needs to be started soon.

The girls are doing good. We went up to the park on Friday for about an hour. It was packed. The schools here were on a half day, and it was a beautiful fall afternoon, so I guess they all congregated to the park the minute the bell rang. Little L is definitely not afraid to get in the middle of the big kids though when it comes to going down a slide. Oldest just wanted to swing, but had to wait a long time to get her turn. Then when she did get on one, the younger kids would come up and stare at her. It has always made her uncomfortable and since we have embedded into her to share since she was little, she would give in way to easily.  That evening, her friend came over and stayed the night. She has a ghost app on her phone and she has a homemade ouji board, so they spent most of the evening saying there was spirits around us. They went outside after dark to use the ghost app and got spooked, she asked her dad if they could sit in the truck to do their summoning. They are too funny.

The rest of the weekend went by pretty fast. Spent Sunday doing some grocery shopping and everyone plus their mother was there. We made it in and out and back home in record time. I hope that that wasn’t an inkling on how the next 2 months are going to be. If it is, I just want to stay home. 🙂

I love to scrapbook. I have been doing it since Oldest was 3 years old. It can be a lot of fun, but sooooo time consuming. I told you in one of my last posts that I had some pictures developed from Walgreen’s since they were having a great sale. I started looking and thinking about what all I wanted to do, when I remembered that I didn’t do any scrapbook pages from last Halloween. I found seven pics that I had developed, but no pages put together. Hum, only seven pics? I wondered. I had to throw Oldest off the laptop so I could see just how many pictures I took last year. It wasn’t very many, that’s for sure. I went through them and seen 2 more that I really liked, so I decided that since the sale was still going on to see if I could do it again. I went through each folder and realized that I didn’t do any pages from Little L turning one and on up. This had to be corrected now, and I started adding pictures to the cart. I got 1st and 2nd Birthday and a few odds and ends plus the 2 from last Halloween. The order came to right under 6 dollars with the coupon added in. They were ready by the time I started dinner, and I was going to go right after to pick the order up, but then hubby told me that I had only one brake light on the truck. He was going to wait till morning to check it out and fix it, so I wasn’t going anywhere, even right up the street.

I sat down after dinner and began looking at the pictures I had done from the other day. I realized that I was missing several from Oldest’s birthday. I went back into the account and seen that 5 pictures were just sitting there in a folder that I had totally missed. I added them to the cart just to see how much it would be. Then my mom said that she would like to have a few copies of one to send out this Christmas. I let her pic the one she wanted and added them on and placed the order.

When starting a new project, I always want to do something really creative. I went on to Pinterest to get some ideas. I got really depressed because most of them are digital. They are very pretty and look great, but I do all mine by hand. No fancy machines, just scissors and glue. Later on, after L had went to sleep, I pulled my Halloween papers out and started putting some layouts together. Now this is also time consuming, because I will change and rearrange a page at least 10 times before deciding. Sometimes I have to walk away and come back then it will come together. I can’t work on it like I want to, L is into everything, so I have to wait for her to go to bed. Last night I got lucky, she was asleep before 9. Hoping for that again tonight, *fingers crossed*

Although it is time consuming and a bit overwhelming at times, it is so fun to look back and see those beautiful faces and how much they have grown. 🙂

The kids and I, before we came down with the head cold thing, started working on their Halloween salt dough projects.  I let them play with the dough for a bit, while I tried to figure out how to get L’s hand and foot print. The hand print we had to do 3 times. 3rd times the charm, right?! Daddy helped me do the foot print which took the first time. Oldest did her hand print. After we got them dried, Oldest decided to make her hand print into a spider.

The foot print became a candy corn ghost, 20151017_115714

and the hand print, 20151017_120012-1 turned out pretty cool just like it is. I would like to get some glow in the dark paint to make the hand and ghost parts stand out more, but for now it will have to do. I had enough left that I made an extra pumpkin, a tombstone and ghost. Hey I like to play too, ya know.

We got out the paints this morning and started painting their pumpkins. Oldest wanted to do a Minion pumpkin but as she was waiting for the paint to dry, L painted on it. She wiped it all off and has to start over now, so no pictures of hers yet. But I did get one of L’s finished work. I was hoping for a little bit more paint on it, but instead it was all on her hands and arms.

The best part is that they had fun, and that is all that matters. 🙂

I finally got some of the crafts that I had been working on done before October officially started. I hung a couple of things up today and I need to figure out where the rest will go. First, I did my Boo sign.

20150930_120832-1

I didn’t want to buy the wooden letters at Michael’s and Hobby Lobby is a little far for me to drive to check out the prices, so I kept a big diaper box and used the cardboard to make the letters. Then I used some extra scrapbook paper to cover the letters. They are not perfect but I think it looks pretty cool like that.  Next is our popsicle stick creations. Now I got this idea from __________. Oh come on, you know where I have been hanging out. Pinterest!

20150930_123352-1

Hee hee so what do you think? Aren’t they cute?! Oldest wanted to make her ghost have a mustache and have beaty eyes, apparently. But she did do a good job on the pumpkin and spider faces! At first I was going to put magnets on the back but my fridge is full and I don’t want them too low for little hands to reach and tear apart. L is pretty good at destroying everything in her path nowadays. She picked up the Boo sign a few days ago and said, “Awesome!” then ripped the letters apart after I glued the ribbon on. So now it is up on the wall for her to admire, from afar!

Another thing I worked on was this little wreath.

20150930_161351-1

I made this out of toilet paper rolls. You would not believe how many crafts you can do with toilet paper rolls. When I seen it, I was like, hey I never thought of this. This is too cool. (I know…nerd) But it is pretty neat what all you can make. The wreath, I painted in Halloween colors, then put some mod podge stuff on each one to make them a little shinier and harder to tear up. I had it together and hung it up today, took a pic, then noticed it was crooked. Luckily I had a few extra pieces leftover and so I added them and made it look more round. It isn’t perfect, but hey nothing that you make off of Pinterest is. 😉

I hope you enjoyed viewing and maybe will try to make some too. Would love to see them if you do! 🙂

Fall Crafts

I hope everyone had a wonderful first day of Fall. The weather here is still pretty much summertime. High 90’s with lots of sun. Monday and Tuesday were both nice, lots of clouds Monday and we had some rain in our area early Tuesday morning. Even though the sun came out Tuesday, there were still clouds to help keep the temp down. They are saying around 100 for the next week on. I don’t think it is ever going to go away.

I used to hate to see summer end. Although I have always been a big fan of Halloween, seeing September come meant shorter days and cold weather was upon us. Now I feel a bit differently. I still love Summer, but I think Fall is my new season of choice.

I have really thrown myself into these Fall and Halloween crafts. I got a few done and then realized, OMG first day of fall is around the corner! So I had to make something really quick. I think it turned out pretty good. But in my quest do get it done by the 23rd, I totally spaced taking pictures until it was completely put together and hanging on the wall.

I added the leaves (since we had played around and made so many), because there was a flaw on the A after Oldest got it all glued down. Once I added the big leaf, I thought, oh what the heck and added the 2 small ones. There are so many cool ideas out there but I have to realize there is just not enough time. Especially since there is a countdown on Facebook everyday telling me that Halloween is getting closer and closer. Yea yea, I know this so shut up already! It also means there is going to be a Birthday girl in the house pretty soon. Lots to do in the next 30 days that is for sure.

Thanks for reading!  🙂

Oldest gives up way too easy and I don’t know how to get her to stay with something. She has always done this, so it is not new, but it gets very old and frustrating. The other day she picked up 2 small Christmas cross stitch crafts from Michael’s. She asked if we could get started on one this evening. I love cross stitch. It has been ages since I did them, but they were always lots of fun for me. We opened the kit and I read the instructions to refresh my memory and I started it off for her, trying to show her step by step what to do. I gave it to her and she immediately knotted up the thread. I had to fix it. Then the thread came out and she got mad. I told her to just start over. Count 6 from the right and 2 up. She did, but said she couldn’t get it going. I took it back and proceeded to get her started again. The thread was so light and the lighting in the kitchen was not helping. I told her that we can look at it better tomorrow in the daylight. I stressed over and over that it takes a few to get used to, but once you do, you will be hooked. I know I was at one time. She sat beside me looking at her phone, acting like she wasn’t interested in it at all. I am not going to do it for you, I told her. Because that is what she always says, she asks for help then I take over and do it for her. I want her to enjoy it and have fun. I know it sure passed the time for me on boring afternoons.

I have been busy working on some fall and Halloween crafts and came across a cute paper tutorial last night on how to make leaves. Since all we have are palm trees in the yard, I thought it would be nice to make a few for decoration. We started working on it and she couldn’t get the hang of it. It took me like 3 tries to finally figure out what the lady was talking about, since she only put in pictures no words. When I caught on, I tried to show her. She would do it backwards everytime. Then get mad. I told her don’t get mad, just keep trying. That is the way you learn. Her thing is if she doesn’t get it the first time, she just walks away from it. My thing is, I have to know how to do it. If I start it, I want to finish it. I sure hope one day she will feel the same way. 🙂

pinterest

I have been lost in Pinterest for the past 2 days. Lost I tell ya, LOST! I can’t seem to turn it off. It all started by typing in a few simple words Halloween Crafts. That was it. The rest is history. So I have been pretty much glued to my seat in what is probably the hottest spot in this whole house, going through page after page. We always try to do some type of craft for Halloween and Christmas and I have found several neat and non expensive things to do for Halloween so far.

Halloween and Christmas are so much fun. I don’t know who enjoys making the crafts more. I am the one that gets us started and Oldest can’t stand to be left out. If she sees me painting or looking at ideas, she has to start looking too. This morning, she went on Pinterest and was showing me things and was trying to pin them, but I had already beat her to it. What can I say, I am obsessed! And that website does not make it easy.  There are tons and tons of great ideas just waiting to be done. I just wish I had more mula to spend, because we definitely have the time.

What makes it even worse, is when I was was done for a little while yesterday, I went into Facebook. I liked the picture and for a brief second was looking for the PIN IT button. When I realized where I was, I felt a bit silly and had to laugh.

We have already started on a couple of things for Halloween. We made a trip up to Michael’s Crafts store last night and bought some stuff. I set Oldest up with painting today. Will post pictures when we get done. Don’t want to give it away. 😉

Mondays

Have you ever felt like this on a Monday afternoon? What am I going to do to get through this day with 2 somewhat bored kids? Actually that could go for any day of the week. Here in Arizona, it is still too hot to go to the park, so to get over the Monday blues, the girls and I decided to make home made playdough. Oldest and I had been wanting to do this for awhile, but I kept forgetting to buy some of the ingredients. So yesterday when we went to the store I finally remembered to get the stuff.

I followed a tutorial on YouTube. There are hundreds of tutorials for this stuff and it is so much like salt dough plus one ingredient, vegetable oil. Some recipes called for cream of tartar, but I didn’t want to have to cook anything, so we chose the one that was easiest. You can watch the video here. Like I said, pretty simple, and the kids had a ton of fun.

We played for about an hour and a half. L loved it, she kept saying squishy as it oozed through her fingers. We also had her practice her colors with it too. Next time, we are going to take the food coloring and mix the colors so we can make orange and purple. When we were done, we sealed each color in its own ziplock bag and placed it in the fridge for more fun later.  It is also good for the older kids. Oldest help me make it, and I had her measure out the flour and salt. Although I think she got a little confused on what a full cup is, we got through it. Sometimes, I really worry about her.   Hope you enjoy!  🙂
